Hi
Marty,
First, let me thank you again for all
the time you spent with us on Sunday,
March 2, 2003. Your knowledge and dedication
to the Cane Corso breed were evidenced
all through your discussion with us.
Meeting the dogs was a revelation; here
we were, surrounded by over half a dozen
very large dogs who had never met us
before, and acted as though they had
always known us.
Well, this is some puppy! I have to
say, in 40 years of having dogs, this
is the smartest, most independent, self-possessed
puppy I have ever had. Cleo is extremely
attentive to all instructions and new
experiences, and learns very quickly.
She was 7 1/2 weeks old when we brought
her home. Now, at the ripe old age of
10 weeks, she is great pals with her
"packmates," the Rottweiler, the Sheltie
and the terrier mix. She is unfazed
by 2 extremely loud and large cockatoos,
2 African Greys, and a singing Tres
Marias amazon parrot. She eats well,
plays hard, and goes into her crate
on her own to nap when she is tired,
something that she has been doing since
the third day she was here. She goes
on her wee-wee pads, or almost on them
most of the time, and since the weather
has turned warmer, she has been introduced
to the run, where she is with the other
dogs, (under close supervision, as she
thinks she can play as hard as they
do). She walks up there and back on
her lead, very nicely, and has been
wearing a collar for a week and a half
as though it was part of her skin. She
starts "Puppy Headstart" class next
Monday, and I fully expect her to go
to the head of her class.
Joe and I are both totally enamored
of her. I will try to get some good
pictures of her to send to you. She
is definitely developing that Cane Corso
look, with her wrinkled forehead and
intelligent expression.
Again, I must tell you that breeding
and genetics will tell, even at this
early age. I am so glad that I spent
the time that I did researching the
breed before deciding upon the Cane
Corso. I have always loved the Mastiff
breeds, and this is a very old one.
It was a hard decision not to go back
to the St. Bernards that I used to breed
and show, and although I will always
love them, I believe that my present
choice is the best one. I looked into
many Cane Corso breeders before contacting
you, but having had large dogs for years,
I was properly impressed with the fact
that your breeding was heavily invested
in temperament, easily the most important
factor in owning a breed of this type.
The fact that they are all so well conformed,
is just so much icing on the cake.
Thank you again for everything, and
especially for Cleopatra Helena, (well
named for two beauties of the ancient
Mediterranean world), and we will keep
in touch.
Barbara and Joseph Levine.
